Kanae Hirabayashi is a longtime Chicago birdwatcher and bird photographer. The photos on this site represent a fraction of the photos she has taken over the years. For digiscoping, Kanae uses a Nikon 990 CoolPix digital camera with a Swarovski AT 80mm (20 - 60X zoom eyepiece) telescope. She also uses a Canon EOS 10D digital SLR camera with Canon EF 28-135mm and 75-300mm lenses, and, since March of 2006, a Canon 20D digital SLR camera with EF 100-400mm IS lens.
Kanae has a custom-made adapter that fits over the eyepiece of her telescope. The digital camera is then attached to the scope via the adapter. This method is easier than hand-holding the camera up to the telescope's eyepiece.
